Plumber
Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent.
Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
Reports To: Director of Maintenance
Job Goal: To perform general plumbing and maintenance work.
Mission and Goals:
• Works with the Superintendent to articulate and promote the school system's vision of learning and teaching.
• Monitors and evaluates progress toward accomplishment of system goals and objectives.
• Ensures that program plans are consistent with the system's strategic plan.
• Organizes daily, monthly, and yearly schedules to facilitate learning and teaching in the schools.
Management of Educational Resources:
• Administers the finances of the district with sound fiscal management.
• Achieves maximum results for available resources and money spent.
• Strives to meet the needs of the school district.
General Responsibilities:
• Assembles pipe sections, tubing and fittings, using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, or soldering, brazing and welding equipment.
• Fills pipes or plumbing fixtures with water or air and observes pressure gauges to detect and locate leaks.
• Reviews blueprints and building codes and specifications to determine work details and procedures.
• Prepares written work cost estimates and negotiate contracts.
• Studies building plans and inspects structures to assess material and equipment needs, to establish the sequence of pipe installations, and to plan installation around obstructions such as electrical wiring.
• Keeps records of assignments and produces detailed work reports.
• Performs complex calculations and planning for special or very large jobs.
• Locates and marks the position of pipe installations, connections, passage holes, and fixtures in structures, using measuring instruments such as rulers and levels.
• Measures, cuts, threads, and bends pipe to required angle, using hand and power tools or machines such as pipe cutters, pipe-threading machines, and pipe-bending machines.
• Installs pipe assemblies, fittings, valves, appliances such as dishwashers and water heaters, and fixtures such as sinks and toilets, using hand and power tools.
• Cuts openings in structures to accommodate pipes and pipe fittings, using hand and power tools.
• Hangs steel supports from ceiling joists to hold pipes in place.
• Repairs and maintains plumbing, replacing defective washers, replacing or mending broken pipes, and opening clogged drains.
• Directs workers engaged in pipe cutting and preassembly and installation of plumbing systems and components.
• Installs underground storm, sanitary and water piping systems and extend piping to connect fixtures and plumbing to these systems.
• Clears away debris in a renovation.
• Uses specialized techniques, equipment, or materials, such as performing computer-assisted welding of small pipes, or working with the special piping used in microchip fabrication.
• Performs others duties as assigned by the Superintendent, the Deputy Superintendent, the Maintenance Director , and/or the Superintendent's designee
Terms of Employment: Twelve months. Salary and work year will be established by the Board.
Evaluation: Performance of tills job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Services Personnel.
